Beat Travel Stress With 5 Family-Friendly iPhone Apps

One of the most common ailments suffered by family travelers is holiday stress, probably brought on by challenges faced during vacations. Thankfully there are ways to counter this problem, so here are some ever-reliable iPhone apps that will make planning your trips easier and more bearable.

1. Rest Area Finder
Screaming toddler? Queasy child threatening to repaint your car upholstery with her barely-digested lunch? Have no fear, Rest Area Finder is here. This app tells you where to find all rest stops as well as vital details that go with it – and it’s free too!

2. MotionX GPS Drive
I find that this app alone can rival major GPS systems in the market. Using it made me feel like I am navigating in-game, GTA style =) That alone should convince you to use this aptly priced app ($2.99) but that’s not all. It also comes with live voice guidance and points out major landmarks like gas stations, restaurants and rest stops along the way, making it easy for you to plan your journey ahead.

3. iStoryTime
Forget about lugging around heavy storybooks for your kids each time you go for a trip. iStoryTime caters to all your storytelling needs and fits nicely inside your pocket in the form of your iPhone. Targeted at kids the e-Book has a wide variety of stories that are both enriching and entertaining to kids aged between 2 to 7. Adults will love the cheery illustrations, and low price tag ($0.99 – $1.99 per e-Book) too!

4. Tappy Tunes
Yet another gem for parents whose nerves are frazzled by cranky kids in the backseat. The Tappy Tunes app lets you play pre-loaded tunes and your kids can tap on your iPhone according to the beat. A great way to relieve boredom!

5. Family Car Games
Family Car Games is a neat little app that has everything you need to pass the time while driving without the kids constantly hollering to ask “are we there yet”. There are more than 100 games to choose from, so that you’l reach your destination even before the kids know it!
