First Aid iPhone App’s Popularity Rising After Haiti Quake

Pocket First Aid and CPR App saves a life
Remember the iPhone app that helped saved the life of a man who was trapped underneath rubble during the January 12 Haiti quake? We wrote about how Dan Woolley aka webguydan turned to the Pocket First Aid and CPR iPhone app he downloaded to helped him stay alive underneath tonnes of rubble and debris before rescuers came to his aid. After being saved, he gave a 5-star rating for this app and even called it a “high-tech version of a Swiss Army knife that enabled me to treat my own injuries, track time, stay awake and stay alive.”

Reaching a new milestone
Not surprisingly after the incident, especially after Wired.com’s report about the life-saving app surfaced, the app’s position in the Apple App Store leaped more than 30 spots from no.89 to no.57. For several days, the American Heart Association, also the co-creator of the app, waited in trepidation to see if it would rise higher in the App Store’s paid app list. And it did. Incredibly the $3.99 app rose up steadily in the charts and broke the Top 50 position, settling cozily on the 49th spot.

Sound investment
One wonders how much the AHA gained with the success of the Pocket First Aid and CPR app but an insider said “the sales increase has been pretty dramatic.” The app even managed to wriggle its way into the top 15 highest grossing apps, so it’s not a surprise that it reached no.2 spot in the Health and Fitness. Says Yahoo tech blogger Christopher Null: “Woolley’s story inspired me to buy the CPR app, which costs $3.99 and feels like a very sound investment.”

Have you downloaded any first aid app yet?

Another good iPhone app that contains valuable first aid information is the app available from RediVideos. With full video showing first aid techniques and medical information, I highly recommend this app.
