Indie XBOX360 iPhone App Surfaces
Have Live Anywhere, will connect
Live Anywhere is a great concert conceived by the far sighted people at Microsoft. The XBOX Live team wanted more than anything to connect players across the world – both in-game and out – by giving them various means to link up socially. Players can keep in touch with other gamers even when they are not glued to the XBOX360. Of course, Microsoft saw it fit to replicate this concept elsewhere via a slew of planned services for Windows Mobile devices such as a smartphone, but the operative word here is “planned”. Nothing has been done so far to follow up on this innovative concept, until now…
Indie developer saves the day
Enter 1337pwn.com, an indie developer who decided to speed things up by creating their own XBOX Live apps for the iPhone. The first, inXES that can be integrated to an iPhone or iPod Touch. Features including sliding panels and avatars mean that gamers can now check up on their friends and never again miss out on the NXE experience even while on the go.
The other app, 360 Live, is touted to enhance that experience even further. You can retrieve your own XBOX Live details, as well as your friends’ so that you can always be in touch with what they do on XBOX Live. Accepting friend requests and keeping track with achievements is now a cinch. But the best feature I love showing off on my iPhone is the fact that when my iPhone is held normally upright, I see my usual list of contacts on Live. But when I tilt it sideways I instantly see a whole new layout that consists of a deck of my friends’ gamercards – akin to the layout you see on your screen when XBOX Live is on.
