Today, beloved leader Victor pointed me to this write-up over at Tidbits . Although Joe Kissel’s experience with quite so many devices (nine, I believe) falls a bit into the extremes of iOS/OS X use, the problem of dealing with distributed alarms …

3 Underrated iPhone Apps You Should Check Out

Spoiled for choice
There are thousands and thousands of iPhone apps that can be downloaded, 150,000 to be exact, so it’s not surprising that things can get a wee bit crowded in the App Store. According to Krishna Subramaniam, founder of MobClix which is a mobile ad exchange company, the App Store’s Top 25 plays a very important role in helping iPhone users decide what to download. Getting a position in the coveted list is not easy. It takes a whole lot of promotion, or a little luck (just like the first aid app that helped save the life of a survivor in the Haitian quake) to help propel the apps towards the Top 25 list.

But what about the rest of the apps? Not being in the Top 25 list does not mean that these apps aren’t good – in fact they can be just as good as those that made it into the list so let’s take a look at some of the best apps that went by unnoticed!

1. The Extraordinaires
“What? There’s a do-good iPhone app?” Yessiree, and it’s called The Extraordinaires. Firing up this app lets you do micro-charity work using just your iPhone. For example, you can take pictures and help build a map of areas where kids can play safely. Your contribution just helped made the world a little more extraordinary! In my opinion I think this app is more useful than that – it may even inspire people to do actual hands-on charitable missions. However, this iPhone did not get much recognition because it’s been said that those who are interested in performing charitable tasks don’t actually own an iPhone! Perhaps you can change this situation?

2. Pre-school Adventure
Touted as one of Software developer 3DAL’s better offerings, Pre-School Adventure is a fun AND educational iPhone app for pre-schoolers and very young kids. However, only recently did iPhone app developers begin to create apps targeted towards young kids. Time will tell if more apps such as these will pop up in the App Store.

3. i.TV
Said to be the ultimate TV companion, the i.TV iPhone app did not quite gain the popularity that others in its category did. Perhaps they failed to garner enough attention due to competitors partnering up with big names such as Netflix and TiVo. However, I think this is a perfectly handy app to have around that manages your TV viewing lists under one neat app. Users love the features available in this app, and most even commented that the app has yet to crash or lag during usage.

Popularity: 9%
