Apple Says NO to iPhone Apps with Sexual Content
Apple goes “clean”
Twitter and the rest of the online community is abuzz with Apple deciding to purge sexual content from the App Store. If you’re looking to download that “sexy” iPhone app you’ve had your eyes on for quite some time and don’t see it in the App Store, chances are that it’s one of the 5,000-odd apps being pulled off the App Store’s shelves this week.
What’s not allowed
Apple’s App Store policy has been revamped and it now states that iPhone apps with these content will not be allowed access in iTunes:
1. Images of males and females in bikinis or other provocative wear
This is rather harsh. Apple’s being more conservative than ever but at least we don’t have to worry about seeing the bikini-wearing American Idol dude appearing it he App Store!
2. Pictures of skin
Human skin? Cow skin, as opposed to leather products? Sorry for being dense but Apple should clearly define what “pictures of skin” really are…
3. Silhouettes indicating that the app includes sexual images
Does this apply to Apple’s iPod silhouette-type ads so popular during the launch of their best selling gadget?
4. Sexual innuendo
Okay Apple, we get what you mean…
5. Sexually arousing content
Enough said.
With all that’s said and done, it is surprising to see that the Playboy app still exists in the App Store although it has every bit of sexual innuendo contained in it. This got most app developers fuming, especially this particular developer who have had their Wobble app removed just because it featured a girl’s (nude?) silhouette in the app page. Even ice skating tights are not allowed – and it’s a costume for Michelle Kwan’s sake!
Let’s see what else Apple will do in light of this latest issue trawling the Internet and the mobile world.
