More iPhone App Developers Jumping onto the Bandwagon
It’s astounding how many apps currently exist in the App Store – There are almost 150,000 apps to choose from! But what’s more amazing is the fact that there are approximately no less than 35,000 companies that are the idea hothouses behind the apps we all love.
The Independent reported that mobile research analytics company Flurry collected enough data to conclude that these developers came from vastly different backgrounds. Some of them were originally from companies that already produce games or software as their core business – basically existing Internet platforms. Interestingly though, the other part of the developer group were listed as people who came together to pool their resources to create iPhone apps. Their main motivation? Cash.
Let’s break down the statistics and see where all these iPhone developers come from.
- 20 percent of the the iPhone applications you see in the App Store were created by companies that originally made Internet their core business
- 19 percent are gaming companies namely famous The Sims creator Electronic Arts
- Another 19 percent are produced by brick-and-mortar companies
- 17 percent of the apps were conceived by companies who previously dabbled only in traditional media, namely Disney and New York Times
- 5 percent of iPhone apps were produced by people who made a living creating apps for different platforms but have now hopped over to Apple-based apps
- Most encouragingly, it is proven that 20 percent apps were created by startups who solely intended to produce iPhone apps!
Sounds encouraging to you? The iPhone apps business is indeed a lucrative pie – think about it when you embark on your next iPhone app project.
